Pastel Granny Square Bunting

I started my first ever crochet project last Christmas – a bundle of pastel granny squares, that I originally planned to make into a blanket.

Sadly six months on, my enthusiasm for the project has all but disappeared. My first granny squares aren’t very tidy and the yarn I used was fairly cheap (and not particularly nice to work worth), so I really don’t think they’d make a very nice blanket. I’m also just a little bit sick of it and know that I will probably never get around to making the dozens more squares needed to make the blanket a decent size…

Despite their imperfections some of the squares are quite pretty, and I refuse to let all those hours of work go to waste, so I was very pleased with myself when it occurred to me that I could string them all together and make sweet bunting instead! Genius.

Right now I’m still in the process of stitching them all together but soon enough we’ll have sherbet coloured bunting decorating all our windows. I think that will be quite cute! And messy as they may be, it’s nice to have found a use for my first ever crochet creations.

Granny Squares

I’ve been busy granny square-ing. I’m not very good at knitting yet but I can granny square it up with the best of them!

I call this little blanket “The Sherbert Blanket”. It has been a work in progress for a few months now. Sometimes I go a couple of weeks without even crocheting a stitch, other times I get into the granny square zone and stitch like a mad woman. I like it a lot. I find making granny squares like a lovely, simple kind of meditation or therapy. I can just sit quietly, focus on the rhythm of stiching and let my mind wander… I think it helps my brain decompress.

Do you crochet? Do you have a crafty therapy? I’d like to hear about it!
