A Proud Moment

Homegrown and Homemade

I’m interrupting our new once a week posting schedule, just to share a little something that meant a great deal to Reuben and I. Last night we ate our most home produced meal to date. It consisted of homemade pesto made from homegrown basil, homemade feta and homegrown tomatoes on sourdough toast and homemade lemon cordial, made with lemons from my mum’s lemon tree, followed by homemade chocolate slice for dessert. It wasn’t fancy or elaborate but it made us very proud. And I do believe it was the one of the absolute best meals I have ever eaten! In moments like this I feel so grateful for the path we have chosen and so excited for all that lies ahead of us as we continue on this journey.

Today I am making semi dried tomatoes and feeling very content. Life is good.

YEA, Katie and Reuben! That photo looks yummy enough to eat. I love making as much
homemade food as possible. I couldn’t live without my crock pot for soups, chili, even
roasting a chicken. In the summer I have fresh herbs. This past, I had tons of wonderful
cucumbers, too. It’s fun to see what is coming up in your gardens when we in the NE
US are experiencing single digit temperatures this week. Your posts warm me up!

It is always a great feeling to eat a meal like that! Like you guys, my husband and I are trying our best to make as much food as we can from scratch. My husband cranked out two loaves of sourdough this weekend – he’s getting better each attempt!

I know you can’t beat that feeling of happiness and that’s what it is, pure happiness. Well Done I’m wanting to make some sourdough bread and attempted my starter but I accidentally put too much water in on day 3 so had to throw it away and then I started again however it has been too hot here and I didn’t think it was working so tossed it out. Kids go back to school next week so I’ll give it another go then. Regards Kathy A, Brisbane, Australia

That is the most beautiful. Simple or not, I would love to be able to grow all of my own things.

It is a great feeling to be eating your own food, I even feel pleased if it is just a small part of a meal that is home grown or even home cooked. Home made bread has got to be the best thing for making you feel self sufficient.

Sounds so deliciously satisfying. What a clever team you are 🙂

That sounds so delicious Katie. Can’t beat homemade. How did you make your own feta if you don’t mind me asking?

Hi Sharon! Reubs made the feta. He used a cheese making kit and the recipe from a book. If you check out our last post you will see links to both. Hope that helps! 🙂
