We’re here! In our house!
We’ve created a little living area and set up our bed (AKA matress) in the lounge room. We’ve decided to sleep in the lounge room and leave the bedrooms empty so we can work on them first, because it has been so hot and the lounge is the only room in our house with an air conditioner. By the time we’ve finished work in the bedrooms it should be cool enough for us to move into one of them. It’s a bit like living in a studio apartment again, like we did when we first moved to Sydney!
The kitties have both settled in really well. They have moved with us so many times they are quite unphased by it all now. Poppy has been lounging about in the living room and Sebby’s been napping hidden in a box. Daisy is a bit unsettled, and I’m sure she is missing my mum’s dogs terribly, so we’re giving her extra cuddles and taking her for lots of visits to mum’s place.
Tonight will be our second night here, and already we have found an assortment of quirks and problems in this old house that we weren’t previously aware of. Like the fact the hot water has no pressure! And the oven doesn’t work! Thankfully there is enough hot water to get by and we have been able to borrow a little benchtop oven from my mum, until we can afford to buy a new one.
Even though in it’s current state our house is very rough around the edges and we are living out of boxes, it feels so good just to be here. This old house has such a lovely vibe. It’s already beginning to feel like home.
And so, a new chapter begins…

Katie, it looks absolutely amazing! How exciting it must be to finally be in your own place! I’m there’s lots of hard work ahead of you, but I’m a bit jel, and I can’t wait to see what you do with it. Yay, yay, yay, YAY!
It’s slowly coming together and looking great so far!
I LOVE your new home – it’s ALREADY coming together. I can imagine sitting in that living room and listening to records and drinking tea …it’s going to be so homey and lovely! How fun and exciting! xoxo
Records and tea sounds like heaven to me! x
It’s looking great so far! Good luck on the rest of your journey!

I know that you must be very happy to be in your own home! You will eventually get all the wrinkles worked out, but until you do…when you feel discouraged, just look at your beautiful floors and remember what it looked like before you started, that should give you some encouragement! I am happy for you! Hugs! Elle

We are very happy indeed Elle! And TRYING not to feel discouraged by all that needs to be done
congrats on moving in. so far, looks lovely
Hi guys!
You are making remarkable progress. Just think how much you’ve accomplished in a relatively short amount of time. Really. You’re doing great!
Love the dog and cat photos. Sweeeeeet!
And I see at least one (maybe two?) sewing machine too. You have to get that out and start using it. Think of all the wonderful things you can make for your new place!
Be well!

We actually have four sewing machines. Isn’t that ridiculous?! Two of them are really old ones that we thrifted, just because they were pretty, to put on display rather than use. One is my mum’s clunky old Singer from the 70s and one is my modern Brother (which I have been missing terrribly!) Can’t wait to get back into sewing once we’ve created a little space for it
So enjoying living vicariously through you!
There is something just so sweet and wonderful about moving into a new home, in spite of wonky ovens and hot water. Hope you are enjoying it all.
So good to see ya’s! Glad you are “settling” in. Even though there is not much hot water, and an oven…isn’t it still the best feeling?!?!?! Looking forward to more posts! Enjoy!
It IS the best feeling Cookie! It is! x
What a great space you have! I love that collection of books on the mantel.
Wow, it’s looking great, it will be home in no time! Maybe you could get a solar oven for the backyard, and use up some of that heat. I bet your mum is enjoying having you just around the corner. Can’t wait to see how it all comes along.
It is so handy having mum nearby! At least if I find the benchtop oven isn’t cutting it, I can just pop over and borrow her kitchen
Well done to you – and your floors look BEAUTIFUL.
Wow, it’s so exciting! We want to move later in the year and your posts are making me look forward to it. You have some really beautiful things.
and just look at those floors !!
what a cute place. i love seeing the transformation beginning to happen!
So exciting! Your pictures look great
Your little house is going to be brilliant by the time you’re finished with it
Sarah xx
Oh, we hope so Sarah! x
What you have set up already looks wonderful, so comfortable & homely. And I’m loving your collection of books…might look into a few of those for my veggie allotment I’m hoping to allocated in our local community garden.
What a great idea to be living out of one room until you get to a few of the others. All of it is exciting and finding those little things out about the house just about happens to everyone…can be annoying but overall to be in your own home is a wonderful feeling and you can’t beat it even with empty rooms. Setting up your veggie garden for the winter will give you equally as much pleasure as that can grow while you work on the inside during winter. Try freecycle or ebay for a 2nd hand oven to get you buy for a while. Even spending $300 on an old one which most ovens are broken and thrown away or people upgrade, change the decor of their kitchen etc. and they get all new appliances. Regards Kathy A, Brisbane, Australia PS love all your photos..very homely and comfortable.
