Bags bursting with gorgeous fresh produce from the Bendigo Farmers Market.

Zucchini flowers stuffed with cheese and pesto.

Rewatching seasons one and two of Downton Abbey, in preparation for season three.

Roses blooming in the garden.

Games of “Squatter” the “Australasian Farming Game” (a very cute vintage boardgame discovered in an op-shop!)

The occasional cooler night reminding us that this scorching summer won’t last forever.

Giant glasses of iced herbal tea.

Finally sealing our floors (we’ve done three coats so far and it’s very almost done!)

It was so good! Reubs came home with a bag of zucchini flowers but we didn’t have any ricotta to stuff them with, so improvised with cream cheese and pesto. It was surprisingly delicious! 🙂

Oh, I love them so! I could almost live on lychees. Sadly we are i the wrong climate to grow them.

The floor is looking good. We’ve also had some cooler nights, I’m so ready for winter and layering now, but I’m still enjoying the summer fruit like mangoes.

What is making me happy right now? The fact that I am once again EXCITED to be blogging and in a creative mood. I was missing that very important part of my life for the past several months. Shame on me for allowing it to become dormant. I have promised myself I will keep the creativeness alive and well from now on!

    Other “happy thoughts”:

–My wife is having a great time putting together a scrapbook for our oldest son who graduates high school in the Spring. The fact that she has found a hobby makes me very, very happy.

–I am going to re-organize my creative space in the basement. It has been over-taken by other ‘stuff’ and needs to be cleaned up so I can have a serious, permanent space to make things.

–We are moving forward on some home-improvement projects. Last summer/fall we had new windows installed. A major project. A major improvement. It is SO nice to be able to open our windows. Why did we wait so long?

–We re-decorated the master bedroom a few months ago. It is a HUGE improvement over the horrible big-flowery-wallpaper that was there before. My wife and I stripped SO much wallpaper. We treated ourselves by having the room professionally painted. It’s awesome. Such a beautiful, peaceful place. We love it.

–Since my wife is now scrapbooking, she loves going to Michael’s and Hobby Lobby as much as I do. (Well…maybe not quite as much.) That makes me smile.

–Our old ‘living room’ (now a computer/TV room) got a fresh coat of paint a few weeks ago. We have fallen in love with the rich, high-quality paint from Sherwin-Williams. Now…the old cornice boards need to be re-covered. We FINALLY found some fabric that we like. I’m happy to say that is the next project on the ‘to do’ list.

Sorry for the long comment, but I am VERY happy with all the creative projects that I’m surrounded by these days.

I love seeing the progress you two are making on your house.

Summertime in Australia. Ahh…I’m looking forward to springtime here in the States.

Reading your blog always makes me happy. 🙂
I’m also happy that we made progress on a stair make-over project this weekend.
And that I can be home with my kids on their day off school today.
And that although we didn’t buy groceries for the week yesterday, we did plan our meals for the week! Fewer crowds at the store on Monday, anyway.

    Hi Katie and Reuben,

This post has inspired me to take pictures of my own 10 Good Things Right Now. Nice way to capture the good stuff – via snapshots!

I saw the TuckerBox card from Squatter and squealed. I *LOVE* that game!!! My family come from a farm, with sheep! You would think we would be over it? But we’re not! At least I’m not. My family might be.. a little bit 🙂

10 good things for me right now:
    * drizzling rain
    * the softness of my kittens fur
    * fairy lights on the balcony powered by the sun #JOY#
    * imagining how good this new pasta dish is going to taste when I get around to cooking it. Recipe from junk mail. Thank you Curtis Stone.
    * imagining how proficient I will feel having cooked said pasta dish because I don’t really cook well. Am picturing something along the lines of a Betty Draper/Nigella hybrid
    * daydreaming about my perfect home which I would build in a perfect world
    * thinking about ideas for the doona cover I want to make
    * Day of the Triffids on audiobook – it. is. AWESOME!
    * the pure and utter peace that comes from a good nights sleep
    * the building pressure waiting for the next episode of The Walking Dead. The agonising wait is an essential part of my appreciation.

    Thanks for sharing, and inspiring…
    P.S LOVE your puppy 🙂

    Squeallllllll!! You play Squatter?!?!

Sorry, I thought I was the only person in the world who did…. I have a treasured vintage version which is just too precious, so we bought the new version for the children to play with. It’s the best game EVER!!!

The floors are looking great, must feel amazing to have gotten all that sanding finished!

    • Katie
      Katie February 12, 2013 at 4:06 pm #

Ha! We thought WE were the only ones in the world who played Squatter! It is brilliant. We found our lovely vintage version in an op-shop for $1 and bought it purely because we thought a sheep farming boardgame was the cutest thing ever, then played it and discovered it’s actually really, really fun! We love it 🙂

      • Cassie February 12, 2013 at 9:13 pm #

We actually introduced some friends to it a few years ago who still play, but sadly they live on the other side of the country now 🙁 We will have to skype a game!!
