Tomorrow is Reuben’s birthday so today I baked him a raspberry cheesecake. I had only ever baked one cheesecake (which was a disaster) prior to today, so I was a little nervous about making a mess of things. Somehow, miraculously, the cheesecake came out of the oven looking and smelling gorgeous, so after happily snapping a couple of pictures I left it on the table to cool…
And then the cat walked across it, leaving a gigantic paw-shaped crater behind her.
The last week has just been like that. Disappointing. Frustrating. Stressful. Our home has been bubbling over with short tempers and worries, and Reubs and I have both been a bit glum. Of course, we all have bad weeks. I have never been a particularly patient person but I am doing my best to muster a little patience and remind myself that soon enough these struggles will pass. In the scheme of things, my problems are so trivial.
Tomorrow my wonderful manfriend turns 28. We will spend the day together, go to the movies and celebrate with friends over Indian food. Oh and cat crater or not, that cheesecake is delicious! Life is good.
Wishing you all a sunshiney week and sending happy, calm and patient thoughts your way!
Katie x
PS I used this recipe for the cheesecake.
PPS Reuben wanted me to let you know he misses you guys. He’s been working very, very hard lately and hasn’t had much time for blogging, but he hopes to return to this space very soon.

Happy birthday Reuben! Your birthday plans sound absolutely perfect. Well done on the cheesecake, Katie, it looks delicious, cat paw or no cat paw!
aw, happy birthday reuben! cake looks great!x
Happy birthday to Reuben! I’m sorry your week has been a downer, I hope that this week starts looking a little better. The cheesecake looks delish.
Happy Birthday Reuben! Celebrating over Indian food sounds perfect; *gush* I adore Indian food! Yum!
The cheesecake looks delicious and I’m sure things will pick up for you guys very soon. Like you said, we all have bad weeks, but things can’t be frustrating forever. Waves crash down so they can rise up again, right?
That is a fantastic metaphor Becky! Thank you for sharing x
Happy Birthday Reuben! The cheesecake looks so delicious, and the cat crater adds a little more character to the dessert right?
Happy Birthday Reuben – enjoy your day! Am sure the cat was just testing the cheesecake for freshness and giving it a seal of approval – it looks wonderful and am sure will taste amazing.
Cats have no respect do they? Ours are forever walking over or on things they shouldn’t, managing to change channels by walking on remote controls, getting my laptop to do things I didn’t know it could (and I can’t replicate what they’ve done). Jack especially likes to assist me in the workbook managing to sit in little bit of empty space I’m trying to work in (I like to have everything I need close, but that does use up the space!).
I hope Reuben has a great birthday and you enjoy the day too
Oh yes, we an relate to all of this! Poppy is particularly fond of walking across/sleeping on the laptop
Happy Birthday Reuben! Erin had a beautiful cake made for me one year, and it was proudly displayed on the table, then a little black cat not only walked over it but left a trail of creamy icing paw prints across the table!
Very happy birthday wishes to Reuben.
I am sorry to hear about your week. I hope things smooth out for you all soon. These times do test the patience but thankfully they do pass.
What a cheekie kittie. Although it did make me smile. They just don’t seem to understand etiquette, or maybe it is cat etiquette and it is perfectly acceptable in their eyes? xxx
Happy birthday Reuben! I hope you have a lovely day with Katie. Forget about your troubles, today is a day for you both to enjoy. Love the cheesecake, Katie. You are some cook, young lady!
lots of love
Rhonda xx
happy b’day reuben! 2012 was the year of cheesecakes for me…i was always scared of making them but now i have a favourite recipe and have been enjoying experimenting with different flavours…they really are one of my fave desserts! sounds like your kitty gave it the stamp of approval too
I forsee 2013 being the year of the cheesecake in our house! This one was such a success, I’m looking forward to making many, many more
You’ve got to love cats…why she couldn’t walk around the cake is another question entirely. It looks tasty though…footprint and all.
Oh dear, you poor thing! It must be horrible when that happens! Your cake did look very pretty and delicious! Happy birthday Reuben! I hope you both have a lovely day together, despite your stressful times.
xx
Happy birthday, Reuben! Hope you lovely peeps have a fantastic day celebrating, and have a little break from life’s frustrations for a wee bit.
And maybe it’s just me, but a cat-foot-crater actually makes me love that cake even more! Too much cuteness!
Happy Birthday Reuben! Have an AWESOME day.
And enjoy that cheesecake. Yum-o!
Have a great birthday! And the cake will still be good, crater or not
