The Reclaim series is all about turning discarded old things into beautiful new things. It’s about making treasure from trash, reducing our waste and saving a little money along the way. Each episode features an everyday object and a variety of inspiring ways that object can be reclaimed.
Today, we are talking about vintage hankies!
- Make a pretty hanky table runner.
- Display hankies in a big jar or use them to wrap a jar.
- Create a lovely hanky garland/bunting.
- Sew some cute hanky bloomers.
- Use pretty hankies in place of plain cloth napkins.
- Turn hankies into doll dresses.
- Make a pretty hanky dress for yourself, or even a hanky top!
- Use hankies to wrap small gifts.
- Frame hankies for your wall or in place of a headboard.
- Sew a hanky quilt.
- Use hankies as coasters.
- Make hanky cushions.
- Print on hankies in place of cards or invitations.
- Sew hankies together to make pretty curtains.
- Use hankies to embellish bouquets, dress up chairs and decorate things for a party.

i have a growing pile of pretty nice hankies. I’m deathly afraid to cut/sew them, but framing is definitely an option.
I’m deathly afraid of cutting my little collection too! They are precious
i love the hankies used as bunting but i’m crazy about the framed hankies & the ones made into curtains. definitely have some awesome vintage-y ones hanging around & now i’ve got some fabulous ideas of what to do with them.
These are really sweet and precious. One thing though, I don’t see the link for the banner/garland?!
Hi Gina! The image I used is from a wedding photoshoot so there is no tutorial for that exact garland, but there are lots and lots of tutorials for hankie bunting around, like this one! x
Oh my gosh, i love these vintage hankies idea. The first photo is particular delightful!

I love this post! The framed hankies and ones in a jar are my favourites. A good reason to start a pretty vintage hankie collection, I think
Awesome post! You’ve rescued the last 20 Christmas presents from my Nanna!

I made my little girl a quilt with some hankies I found for $2, it is my favourite quilt. One of them was mine I had when I was little. I do love hankies, I need to get a new collection and maybe make another one.

Such lovely ideas! I want to try them all
I love hankies!! I display mine around the upper walls of my craft room. I’ve hung twine and then have pinned them on with those cute little tiny wooden clothes pins. I think I have room for about 100 or so. It’s a great way to see & enjoy them every day.
That’s an adorable idea! Your craft room must be so pretty! <3
Absolutely delightful! I think I’ll have to add to my collection – I have er.. 2.
