This week we (unexpectedly!) welcomed a new addition to our little family. This is Miss Daisy Delilah.
We have wanted a puppy for a very, very long time but have never adopted one, mostly because it’s so difficult to have a dog when you rent. Daisy fell into our hands completely by chance but already we are so glad she did.
On Monday I was picking up some groceries from the supermarket with my mum when I spotted a pup, looking very thin, lost and stressed in the car park. It took us a while to catch her because she was absolutely terrified of us, but she was so weak and exhausted eventually she just cowered in a corner and let us pick her up. We bundled her up and took her home.
When we found her, Daisy was extrememly underweight. She also had fleas and worms, and a trip to the vet revealed a mild case of pneumonia. She has now been bathed and treated for fleas and worms, is on a course of antibioics for the pneumonia and is getting fed frequent small meals. She is eating really, really well and has plumped up quite a bit already! She’s still quite timid and unsure of things but she is such a sweet natured little girl and she’s starting to come out of her shell. Yesterday she started wagging her tail and for the first time started showing interest in playing!
We believe Daisy was dumped over Christmas but the fact she was unchipped, very afraid of people, and in such bad condition leads us to believe she has been neglected all her short life. If Daisy had spent another day without food, water or treatment for her pneumonia, she probably would have died. We considered handing Daisy over to the RSPCA, as we really weren’t sure we were in the position to adopt her, but over Christmas shelters are so overwhelmed with abandoned animals that many have no choice but to put animals to sleep after just 2 weeks. We couldn’t bare the thought of this sweet girl meeting such a sad fate, so she’s here to stay.
We were worried about how the cats would react to Daisy and (as was to be expected) they haven’t been thrilled with us bringing a dog into their home, but they are beginning to warm up to her (or at least, they are hissing at her less!) We know they will get used to her eventually. It’s just going to take a little time and patience.
We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! We both had a nice break and got some lovely presents, thought this cute face is definitely the best gift of all.

and what a cute dog she is! I’m sure the cats will warm up to her- mine got along just fine with the stray dog we brought home.
Oh my word, she is adorable!! And any furry friend named Daisy is destined to turn out fabulous. Happy Puppy Day!
She’s beautiful!

What a cutie. You two have kind hearts. That first wag must have made you laugh and cry at the same time. Made me tear up just thinking about it.
Let’s hope she doesn’t grow into a small pony.

argh!!! THATS SO EXCITING!!!!! omg, hope the cats end up loving her as much as you do. I don’t know where we’d be without Wilfy in our lives now he’s here. X
by the way, this was obviously a “meant to be” situation for both of you. x
I got my pup in quite the same manner. Found him on the side of a busy road, looked for an owner but they’d moved to hawaii, shelter wanted to put him down so we kept him. Best decision ever!! such a great little guy
So glad you took in this little lady!! She’s lucky to have two such sweet fun parents
you made the rest of the year happy, you are such a sweet soul adopting a little puppy who needed a home, there’s so many people who are so horrible abandoning puppies and kitties. She’s such a sweetheart, your cats will get use to, My cats at first didn’t like my puppy, and my female cat still hates him (after 2 years), but from time to time they share my bed, the male cat loves the puppy
Daisy is beautiful. She is so lucky to have found you (and you her!) Wishing you many happy days and snuggly nights with your new pup x
Oh Daisy Delilah looks adorable & I guess it was meant to be… fate that you met the little lady.
She looks a lovely puppy and must be so pleased to have found you.
SO CUTE! I’m so glad you rescued her. I had to put my cat down two days before Christmas, and I feel happy to see that someone else has a chance to rescue someone who needed it so. I expect lots of cute pictures in the future!
She is SUCH a sweetheart. You are both fantastic for taking her in. I hope she brings much joy to your home!

Congrats on your new addition. Dogs are great!
Just came across your blog and love it! Congrats on your new addition. She looks like a little sweetie!
Once our cats explained to a new pup that they were the boss, everyone got along fine. The pup in wuestion is now almost 7 years old and he loves and grooms the cats whenever he gets the chance! They will also rub around his legs for attention
Oooh – what a sweetheart!!
kudos to you for rescuing her, she’s a doll!
Oh those gorgeous big eyes! Daisy looks like an absolute sweetheart, and hooray to you for giving her the chance to thrive – here’s to many happy dog years ahead!
I love dogs, especially my boyfriend’s Norwegian Elkhound. I wish I had one of my own. Have fun with Daisy!
What a sweet little Christmas story! We totally feel for you in terms of the uncertainty of having a dog when you rent a place. Would love a pup but just can’t do it right now (although I’d die to take home this little one if we found her)! So cute. Perfect addition!

Something 2 Write About
Oh! Sweet Daisy Delilah! This is such a heartwarming story and I’m glad you took this little angel into your home. The perfect addition to your darling family.
hey! I have been reading your blog for a few weeks – its lovely. Anyway you guys are amazing! Good on you for adopting the puppy! I cant believe people can look at such sweet puppy eyes and be even a little bit cruel or abandon them. It would kill me. I adore dogs.
Daisy is soooooo cute. I love her big ears!
Oh, thank you so much Rebecca! I can’t understand how people can be cruel to animals either… I just wish I could rescue them all!
That’s so heartbreaking to read about your poor puppy’s beginnings, but so wonderful that you guys found her and have taken her in. It must be fate! Daisy looks so lovely, I’m sure your cats will adjust in time to her too.
Oh wow wow wow! How did I miss this??? ! She is gorgeous and so are you 2 for taking her in, looking after her and loving her. I’ll never in my life, understand how people can abandon animals. Never. A dog is for life – and goodness how they repay. There’s not much as lovely as doggy snuggles!
